Philippe Ramette

Philippe Ramette

3rd - 28th of February 2013

Ramette is a French artist referential of the European contemporary artistic scene.

Fundación Pablo Atchugarry in collaboration with Xippas gallery and with the support of Embajada de Francia en Uruguay and Alianza Francesa, present the solo exhibition of Philippe Ramette.

The exhibition includes an important photographic retrospective with over 30 photographs, drawings-sketches and some of his most recent sculptures. There is also a projection of the documentary Le monde de Ramette (2009), by Guillaume Allaire, that registers the development of a photographic production of Philippe Ramette, where the process of the creation of his work is revealed.

Also at the opening, at the park of the foundation, will be the inauguration of the sculpture “Point of view”, donated by the artist and Xippas gallery.

During twenty-one years, Philippe Ramette has developed his work around the conception and the realization of objects in relation to the body or, more precisely, the objects that express the reflexive dimension of the body. These pieces are often the instruments or the designed devices to experiment physically what should only be a mental process. Philippe Ramette has defined himself above all as a sculptor and his photographic work, which in the beginning was limited in comparison to his sculptures, is now a medium of choice for all type of experience and experimentation.

Rotating the image or his own body upside down, the artist is defying the world and the laws of gravity. The prosthesis, hidden under the traditional suit and tie and invisible in the photographs, allow the artist to experiment what he calls “irrational postures” during the short lapse of the photographic shot.

The prosthesis for the body and the soul, the objects and dreamed situations by Ramette are designed to better, in a manner of play, our moral and spiritual existence and liberate us from the limits imposed by our conditions as humans such as moving through the skies or depths of the ocean in complete liberty, even though there is a price to pay: a psychological effort or a mortification of the body.
